A look at the shopping moments that matter most across the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan this winter — and where the real growth is happening.
MENAP enters this Black Friday season as the fastest-growing digital advertising region in the world. Digital ad spend across the region reached $8.185 billion in 2025, up 17.8% year over year — outpacing every other region globally, with Egypt alone posting 23.1% growth. Retail media is leading that charge, growing 40.5% in a single year, alongside connected TV (+31%) and social video (+23.6%). In the UAE specifically, internet penetration sits at 99% and smartphone penetration at 95%, and mobile internet users across MENAP are approaching 357 million — mobile-first isn't a strategic choice here, it's the baseline.
That growth lands on top of a calendar that's more layered than a single "Black Friday" date suggests.
Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, with what the region calls Cyber Monday following on Monday, November 30 — though offers typically run across a full "Black Week" (November 23–29) rather than concentrating on either single day. Naming varies market to market: the same event is marketed as White Friday, Yellow Friday, or Big Friday/Mega Sale depending on the country, so creative copy needs to match local convention rather than defaulting to the Western term.
Mobile is where nearly all of this plays out. Given smartphone penetration north of 95% in markets like the UAE and close to 357 million mobile internet users regionally, Black Week is overwhelmingly a mobile shopping event — the same retail media and social video channels driving MENAP's broader digital ad growth are exactly the channels carrying most of the Black Friday traffic itself.
One scheduling detail worth flagging early: Cyber Monday (November 30, 2026) lands on the same date as UAE Commemoration Day this cycle. National Day itself, two days later on December 2, is the safer moment for celebratory retail messaging — Commemoration Day calls for a different tone.
UAE National Day (December 2, 2026, the UAE's 55th anniversary, with December 3 also a public holiday) acts as a bridge moment right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, well suited to patriotic, family, and experiential messaging — and a good moment to lean on store-finder and click-to-map formats rather than pure discounting.
From there, the Dubai Shopping Festival overlaps directly with the end-of-year window, adding another full layer of retail momentum specific to the UAE. Gifting habits are shifting too, with digital and virtual gifts becoming a bigger part of the holiday mix alongside traditional gifting — which extends the value of retargeting and cart-recovery campaigns well past Black Friday weekend itself, since shoppers keep browsing and buying gifts right through the DSF window.
DOOH in Ajman is the newest and most distinctive piece of local inventory. In October 2025, Yango Ads signed an MoU with Safe City Group to become the lead commercial partner for a first-of-its-kind large-scale digital-out-of-home network across Ajman — high-end LED screens on the emirate's main entry and exit roads, generating over 50 million monthly impressions, live up to 20 hours a day. Ajman's audience is genuinely mixed — tourists, expats, investors, families, and Free Zone workers — and the emirate's growing real estate sector and status as one of the safest cities globally make it a strong always-on reach play for the whole season.
In-app advertising via Yango Taxi picks up where DOOH leaves off, reaching people mid-journey rather than passively. Dubai's public transport, shared mobility, and taxi network carried 802.1 million riders in 2025 — up 7.4% year over year — and Yango's AI-powered routing saved riders more than 5 million hours across 20+ cities in 2025, including 34,000 hours in Dubai and Abu Dhabi combined. In-app formats range from main-screen entry banners and full-screen stories to map-based prompts and order-flow upsell cards, all targetable by tariff, behavior, and geo. The same core in-app formats are also available in Pakistan, giving brands a consistent way to extend the same contextual approach into a second major market rather than building a separate playbook from scratch.
For a brand running a Black Friday, National Day, or year-end campaign, the two products work best in sequence rather than as alternatives: DOOH in Ajman runs continuously through the season for broad, city-wide visibility across Black Week, National Day, and the DSF/year-end window, while Yango Taxi in-app placements layer on top around the highest-intent windows — Black Week itself, National Day, and DSF — as contextual reinforcement that catches commuters and shoppers mid-journey, when purchase intent is highest.
The takeaway for agencies planning MENAP campaigns this season: treat Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and UAE National Day as one continuous run rather than isolated moments, watch the calendar collision between Cyber Monday and Commemoration Day carefully, and don't assume December slows down — between the Dubai Shopping Festival and rising digital gifting, the region's spending window now extends well past the Black Friday weekend itself.
