What challenges were you facing before implementing in-app bidding?
We noticed gaps in monetizing our audience, especially in Russian-speaking countries where our audience is mainly below the age of 18 and in-app purchases don’t drive a lot of revenue. We noticed we had some gaps in monetizing that audience and searched for a solution.
What approach did you plan to take to address those challenges?
We don’t usually target a specific audience with our games. In fact, our user demographics are very diverse. But when we get a new game, the first thing we always do is run tests to learn what people think about it in different locations, including emerging markets. We also use the tests to understand local preferences and cultural aspects to guide us in localization.
Our tests showed us how unique the audience in emerging markets is. For example, we found that Russian-speaking audiences have a unique cultural mix. They behave like European users in some aspects and Asia-Pacific users in others. So why spend $10K on an A/B test in the UK or Germany when you can see similar results in emerging markets with just $1K or $2K?
So after we ran a few A/B tests in emerging markets like Russian-speaking countries and saw really great ROAS, we decided to invest there.
How did you implement Yango Ad Network’s in-app bidding as part of your solution?
While looking at local ad networks to plug the gap, a simple web search led us to Yango Ads. It showed great performance in targeting Russian-speaking audiences with Waterfall, so we decided to try it for ourselves.
So, you know, Waterfall is more complex, and you need to continuously optimize it to maximize your ROAS.
That’s when Deniz Chiftchi, the network’s in-app monetization manager, recommended in-app bidding. We have a good relationship with Deniz, and he’s never steered us in the wrong direction, so we decided to test Yango Ad Network’s in-app bidding performance in emerging markets—and we haven’t regretted it since.
The setup process was very, very easy, actually — just write your ID, and you can start monetizing your app like with most other ad networks.
What were the specific results or achievements you saw after using in-app bidding?
After switching to bidding, our revenue share from Yango Ad Network grew from 11% to 20% – almost double. We also saw ARPDAU spikes with bidding for different ad types:

Our total ARPDAU increased by 3% globally and 7% in Russia.
These results encouraged us to switch to in-app bidding via Yango Ad Network for all our games. Before we switched to bidding, Yango Ad Network was our 11th best network or something similar. Now, it’s our 6th best-performing ad network, showing good performances in emerging markets like Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Vietnam.
